Full Motion Racing will be exhibiting two motion simulators at the July 7th Race Legal Drag Races. We will be offering free rides in return for some feedback on the experience we've created. Previously we showed rallycross racing in our RB4 4-wheel drive car. This time you'll be able to try your hand on city streets racing in a 480bph 3-wheel drive turbocharged GTR car. This car weighs only 2470 lbs and puts down 462ftlb of torque.
Below is a quick track walk of the city course we'll be using, to give you some pre-race orientation. Hope to see at the Q on Friday, July 7th.
The Session
The session starts right after T5. By the time you reach T6, your tires will still be cold, so take it easy the first time through. Then you'll be on the front straight ready to start your first timed lap around South City.
Turn 1
Coming off the start/finish straight, turn 1 can be straightened out. It's primary importance is setting you up for T2. The approach on T2 out of T1 is downhill and should be done from the apex.
Turn 2
The apex for Turn 2 is under the overpass, at the bottom of the downhill, allowing for quite a bit of speed. However as the turn straightens out, so does the uphill slope. This means that the apex speed needs to scrubbed off before the additional downforce provided by the slope is lost. At the same time, backing off the throttle too fast can unbalance the car and send you spinning into the rails. This combination makes T2 a turn that is tricky to master at high speeds.
Turn 3
A 180 degree left hander greets you as you come off the straight after T2. It's perfect for a late apex, but its increasing radius can make it difficult to judge the proper line.
Turn 4
This chicane is bounded by rails and is blind on entry. Until you find the perfect line, this left, right, left combo is best approached at low speeds--an encounter with the rails will cost you more time than the lower speed ever will.
Turn 5
This turn's apex is at the crest of the uphill past the chicane. It is the setup for the back straight and can be taken at full speed. Be careful not to change your throttle position too drastically in the turn as the incline change will unbalance your car.
Turn 6
The last turn is another 180 degree turn. However this is a long sweeper that can be taken a moderate speed. Sitting between the back and front straights, the apex is best setup as neutral. Because you want to take advantage of the widest sweeper available, you should start the turn at the outside of the track, travelling through it in the middle of the track and exiting on the outside again.
The Equipment
Taking you around South City is our motion simulator. Capable of momentary acceleration up to 2g, this motion platform realistically reproduces the forces acting on the race driver. The cockpit is suspended between 3 movable struts, allowing 3 degrees of freedom. The screen is mounted to the steering wheel so that your point of view always stays true to your motion.
